At best the whole “know your why” is half-assed information at worst it has been bastardized to exploit employees. If we were to say it is half-assed information to promote the idea of “knowing your why” then it is important to have leadership know the following: People will perform better on a job when they see a purpose behind their actions and it is not just going through the motions. This progress is only possible if the individual meets criteria for a position and has a work environment that is conducive to growth and development. Every single job I have had that has a problem with employee turnover played this “know your why” video! This has been bastardized to mask leadership’s inability to have logistic coordination, advocate or provide an environment that nurtures the growth and development of employees. Instead it is expected to achieve objective without leadership being introspective or supportive. Simply having an employee see the big picture does not excuse leadership not strategizing! It is also important to understand that although it is great if an individual is motivated to do their job for a noble reason, proficiency should be a priority. The work environment and leadership influence proficiency!
